El Paso Electric’s Renewable Energy Tariff Program enables EPE customers to partner with EPE in promoting the use of electric energy that is generated from renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric or biomass.

Renewable energy sources are those which are naturally generated over a short time.

Through its Renewable Energy Tariff Program, EPE is providing its customers the opportunity to contribute to the development of power generated by a renewable resource. The wind power is generated at the El Paso Electric Hueco Mountain Wind Ranch located near the Hueco Mountains, east of Horizon City, Texas.

How does the Renewable Energy Offering Work?
The program, which is offered on a voluntary basis, allows customers to contribute to the development of renewable energy by purchasing blocks of 100 kWh. By signing up to purchase a 100 kWh block of renewable energy, customers will be contributing to the development of renewable resources.

As an example, a 100 kWh block would be enough energy to operate a typical residential refrigerator for one month. The average household in this area uses approximately 500 kWh of electricity per month.

Participants in the EPE Renewable Energy Tariff Program will not notice any difference in their electric service. The energy generated from renewable energy will be combined with energy generated from conventional fuels. The difference is in the reduction of the future use of conventional fuels used to generate electricity.

Costs
Customers who choose to participate in the EPE Renewable Energy Tariff Program are charged an additional fee as part of their regular monthly electric bill. The monthly fee is based on the number of 100 kWh blocks purchased.
