Road Closures: El Paso Electric To Conduct Work in Central El Paso at U.S. 54

Closures at Border Highway, Paisano Drive and Yandell Drive areas

EL PASO, Texas – As part of Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) I-10 Connect project, at the intersection of Interstate 10 (I-10) and U.S. Highway 54 (US 54) in El Paso County, El Paso Electric (EPE) will be relocating electrical infrastructure over US 54 on Sunday, January 19. In order for EPE to safely relocate the necessary infrastructure over US 54, several road and ramp closures along US 54 will be required beginning at 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 19.

Border Highway - Road Closure Information:

  • Eastbound along Loop 375 (Cesar Chavez Border Highway) will be reduced to two lanes beginning at San Marcial Street to US 54.
  • From eastbound to northbound, on-ramp to US 54 North will be completely closed.
  • Westbound along Loop 375 (Border Highway) will be reduced to two lanes beginning near Haskell Wastewater Treatment Plant to US 54.
  • From westbound to northbound, on-ramp to US 54 North will be completely closed.

U.S. Highway 62 (Paisano Avenue) – Road Closure Information:

  • From westbound Paisano Avenue to northbound US 54, on-ramp will be completely closed.
  • Westbound, the right lane will be closed along Paisano Avenue from Washington Street to US 54.

*Bus service along Paisano Avenue will not be discontinued within this area.

Yandell Drive at US 54 – Road Closure Information:

  • Gateway Boulevard South beginning at Yandell Drive will be closed.
  • Southbound US 54 at Exit 21A will be closed.

Other contractors with TXDOT will also be working within the same area. Commuters can utilize the following suggested detour information.

Detour information for I-10 at US 54:

  • Eastbound and westbound traffic on I-10 will take Exit 22B (US 54/Alamogordo/Juárez/Fort Bliss), travel north on US 54 to Exit 22B (Pershing Drive), use the Pershing Turnaround, enter southbound US 54 and follow signs to eastbound I-10, westbound I-10 or Juárez.

Detour information for US 54 between I-10 and Loop 375:

  • I-10 eastbound to Exit 23B (US 62/180/Paisano Drive/Chelsea Street) to US 54 via Paisano Avenue.

Commuters are asked to respect construction barricades and be mindful of reduced speed limits.
