The El Paso Electric Community Development Department offers a variety of public safety education presentations as well as tours of its Rio Grande Power Plant in El Paso.

Basic electricity fundamentals and how the electric utility industry generates and delivers power to its customers.

• Basics covers what electricity is, how it is made, and the differences between AC and DC power.
  Delivery overviews transmission and distribution lines, transformers, substations, service entrances, meters and more.
• Electrical Safety includes overloads, surge protection, live lines, grounding, personal protection, water hazards, and EMF issues.
• Generation discusses the different ways power is generated and the various advantages of each. 

Covers a variety of areas with regard to commercial buildings' energy systems in industries such as fast food, retail stores and commercial operations of all descriptions. Information covered includes: Lighting, Power Quality, Commercial Cooking, HVAC Design, HVAC Systems, CES Design (building design process, commissioning).

Covers the subject of motors from an explanation of how they work, to the advantages/disadvantages of adjustable speed drives. Special paths on motor maintenance and troubleshooting, and economic comparisons of replacing existing motors with different types of motors makes this infomation especially valuable for commercial and industrial consumers.

A virtual encyclopedia on the subject of lighting, it covers different types of lighting equipment - fluorescent, incandescent, HID (high/low pressure sodium, metal halide, etc.) and their applications. It also discusses maintenance and troubleshooting, efficiency and operating characteristics of each type. A retrofit section assists with the decision on what and how to retrofit existing lighting.
