El Paso Electric Announces New Board Members

On May, 25, 2017, El Paso Electric’s (EPE) Board of Directors announced the appointment of Raymond Palacios Jr. and Paul M. Barbas to EPE’s Board. This announcement follows the retirement of directors J. Robert Brown and Thomas V. Shockley.

“Robert and Tom have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to the success of this company and the community it serves, and we would like to thank them for their valuable service and time on the Board,” said Charles Yamarone, Chairman of the El Paso Electric Board of Directors. “When nominating new board members we not only look for integrity, a strong professional reputation and a record of achievement in senior executive capacities, but we also look for Board members with diverse backgrounds and skills reflecting the needs of the Company. We look forward to working with Mr. Palacios and Mr. Barbas as they are two extremely qualified and experienced individuals that will continue to lead EPE on a path of innovation and dutiful service for this region.”

El Pasoan Raymond Palacios, Jr. is president of Bravo Chevrolet Cadillac in El Paso and Bravo Chevrolet Cadillac in Las Cruces, and the presiding officer of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Board. He is past district director of the Texas Automotive Dealers Association, past president of the El Paso New Car Dealers Association, past vice chair of General Motors' Minority Dealer Advisory Council, and a past member of the National Chevrolet Dealer Advisory Council and the Hummer Dealer Advisory Council.

Mr. Palacios serves as a board member of Capital Bank, an executive board member of the Borderplex Economic Alliance, and board member of the Council for Economic and Educational Development. He is past president of the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, and a past board member of Leadership Houston, the University of Houston Alumni Association, Yucca Council Boy Scouts of America, and El Paso Better Business Bureau.

Mr. Palacios received a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston, and is a graduate of Leadership El Paso.

Paul M. Barbas is a Director of Dynegy Inc. Barbas was President and Chief Executive Officer of DPL Inc. and its principal subsidiary, The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L), from October 2006 until December 2011.  He also served on the board of directors of DPL Inc. and DP&L. He previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation from 2005 until October 2006, as Executive Vice President from 2004 until 2005, and as President of Chesapeake Service Company and Vice President of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, from 2003 until 2004.  From 2001 until 2003, he was Executive Vice President of Allegheny Power, after joining Allegheny Energy in 1999 as President of its Ventures unit. Mr. Barbas also served on the public board of Pepco Holdings, Inc. until the company’s sale to Exelon in 2016.
