As part of El Paso Electric’s (EPE) ongoing commitment to upgrade and improve its energy service, the Company will soon construct a new Transmission and Distribution Operations Center (Operations Center) in East El Paso County on property located at Montana Avenue and Zaragoza. The site is adjacent to the proposed Montana Power Plant site but independent of that facility.
The new Operations Center will allow EPE to consolidate employees and work groups from several separate locations into one centralized area to better serve the needs of its customers. Approximately 235 employees from Company units such as such as Transmission, Substations, Relay and Distribution, Warehouse and Fleet Services will report to this location.
“The Operations Center will be located in the fastest growing area within our service territory, giving us the ability to provide enhanced customer service to support our region’s growth,” said Hector Puente, El Paso Electric’s Chief Operations Officer. “The new location also provides easy access to several main transportation arteries, which will allow our crews and employees to respond quicker to service calls and emergencies.”
EPE has selected El Paso-based firms to design and construct the Operations Center. Mijares-Mora Architects will design the facility, C.F. Jordan Construction will be the Construction Manager and BATH Consulting will serve as Commissioning Agent. Construction of the facility is scheduled to begin late February. The facility is expected to be in operation by the end of June 2014.
In addition to building the new Operations Center in East El Paso, EPE’s long term strategy includes constructing additional operations centers on the West Side of El Paso and in Las Cruces.
