El Paso Electric broke ground today on its new Distribution Operations Center located in East El Paso County on Montana Avenue. The Distribution Operations Center is part of EPE’s ongoing commitment to improve reliability and upgrade its customer service.
The new Distribution Operations Center will allow EPE to consolidate employees and work groups from several separate locations into one centralized area to better serve the needs of its customers. Approximately 235 employees from EPE’s Transmission, Substations, Relay, Distribution, Materials Services and Fleet Services will report to this location. The location also provides easy access to several main transportation arteries, which will allow EPE crews and employees to respond more quickly to service calls and emergencies. The Distribution Operations Center was designed with the highest safety standards and will employ environmentally friendly practices that include sustainability, energy efficiency and the efficient utilization of water.
“We have made a commitment to enhance our facilities and infrastructure to better serve our customers and meet the energy needs of our growing communities,” said Tom Shockley, El Paso Electric Chief Executive Officer. “The Operations Center will give us the ability to provide enhanced customer service and will also serve as a catalyst for economic development in the area.”
EPE has selected El Paso-based firms to design and construct the Operations Center. Mijares-Mora Architects designed the facility, C.F. Jordan Construction will be the Construction Manager and BATH Commissioning will serve as Commissioning Agent. The facility is expected to be in operation by the summer of 2015.
