El Paso Electric’s Reliability Indices are the Best Among Utilities in Texas

February 18, 2013

El Paso Electric is proud to announce EPE is once again the most reliable utility in Texas during 2012.

The System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) and the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) are reliability indices compiled by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT). The SAIDI measurement rates the duration of outages while the SAIFI measurement measures the frequency of outages. The PUCT tracks the SAIDI and SAIFI of all investor-owned electric utilities operating in Texas, a total of 10.  During 2012, EPE’s SAIDI and SAIFI ratings were the best in Texas.

Tom Shockley, El Paso Electric Chief Executive Officer, attributes this accomplishment to the hard work and dedication of EPE’s employees who maintain the equipment that provides system reliability and who get customers’ electric service restored as quickly as possible.

“Providing safe and reliable electrical service to our customers is our number one priority,” said Shockley.  “Our employees realize how important our service is to families and businesses and they are committed to responding in the fastest, most effective manner to make sure electricity is restored quickly and safely. El Paso Electric could not have the excellent reliability ratings without their dedication and work-ethic.”

El Paso Electric reliability rankings since 2008:

  • 2008 - No. 3 in SAIFI and No. 2 in SAIDI
  • 2009 - No. 1 in SAIFI and No. 2 in SAIDI
  • 2010 - No. 1 in SAIFI and No. 2 in SAIDI
  • 2011 - No. 1 in SAIFI and No. 1 in SAIDI
  • 2012 – No. 1 in SAIFI and No. 1 in SAIDI
