El Paso Electric earns award for protecting the environment through energy efficiency

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized El Paso Electric (EPE) with a 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for its outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by delivering information and services to its customers to increase energy efficiency. EPE’s accomplishment was recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 15, 2012, which marked the 20th anniversary of ENERGY STAR.

El Paso Electric, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2010, is being honored for its work to increase market share of energy-efficient ENERGY STAR qualified homes in its New Mexico service area through comprehensive outreach, education and marketing programs. EPE recruited 24 new home builders and qualified approximately 140 Energy Star certified homes in 2011.

“El Paso Electric is pleased to have partnered with ENERGY STAR to promote the building of more energy-efficiency homes in New Mexico.  More comfortable homes that are more energy efficient are the end result for the customer,” said Paul Royalty, Manager, Energy Efficiency and Utilization at EPE.

El Paso Electric’s key accomplishments in 2011 include:

  • Recruiting 24 new home builders, bringing the total to 30, and supporting the construction of approximately 140 ENERGY STAR certified homes.
  • Highlighting ENERGY STAR certified homes as part of the Parade of Homes and Home and Garden Shows to thousands of attendees.
  • Incorporating the ENERGY STAR mark into all promotional materials, including recruitment documents and advertisements, and encouraging builder partners to leverage the ENERGY STAR brand.
  • Facilitating the transition to Version 3 through multiple technical training sessions and classes for HVAC contractors, raters, and realtor groups.
  • Participating in and functioning as advisors in local Home Builder Association New Mexico Governmental Affairs and Building Issues committees.

The ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Awards for Energy Efficiency Program Delivery are given to a variety of organizations in recognition of their efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce pollution, resulting in significant cost savings. Award winners are selected from about 20,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
