Santa Fe, NM – The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) has approved EPE’s Transportation and Electrification Plan (TEP) and authorized El Paso Electric (EPE) to move forward on investing more than $1.2 million in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, and education and outreach across its Southern New Mexico service territory. Santa Fe, NM - La Comisión de Regulación Pública de Nuevo México (NMPRC, por sus siglas en inglés) aprobó el Plan de Transporte y Electrificación (TEP, por sus siglas en inglés) de EPE y autorizó a El Paso Electric (EPE) a avanzar en la inversión de más de $1.2 millones en infraestructura de vehículos eléctricos (EV), y educación y actividades de alcance en todo su territorio de servicio del sur de Nuevo México.

El Paso, Texas – El Paso Electric (EPE), El Paso Water and Texas Gas Service team up to raise awareness and educate customers on scams through the sixth annual Utility Scam Awareness Day set for Wednesday, November 17, 2021. Initiated by the Utilities United Against Scams, or UUAS, the week-long scam awareness initiative, ‘End the Call. End the Scam.’ focuses on educating customers of the tactics scammers use to steal their money or personal information.

EL PASO, Texas – As part of the ongoing Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) Braided Ramp Project near the Zaragoza International Port of Entry in El Paso’s Mission Valley, El Paso Electric (EPE) contractors will install new wires that will cross Loop 375 – also known as the Border Highway in this area. This much needed work will require a complete closure of Loop 375 Cesar E. Chavez Border Highway in both directions including the access roads between Joe Rodriguez Road and Pan American Drive beginning Tuesday, November 16 through Thursday, November 18 from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

(Mitsubishi Power) and El Paso Electric (EPE) have signed a joint development agreement (JDA) creating a collaboration framework to jointly develop projects that will enable EPE to achieve its clean energy goals. The JDA extends EPE’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions by replacing carbon-intensive assets with a combination of renewables, storage and power generation using hydrogen to meet the growing demand for clean, affordable and reliable electricity.

Today, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) issued El Paso Electric’s (EPE) air permit for Newman Unit 6. The issuance of the air permit authorizes EPE to begin construction of the state-of-the-art 228-megawatt (MW) natural gas replacement unit at the existing Newman Power Station. EPE’s generation portfolio will also include an additional 270 MW from renewable energy resources, including solar and battery storage. The total 498 MW of replacement and new generation is necessary to meet EPE’s customers’ growing energy needs while replacing older units with cleaner energy. As EPE celebrates 120 years of service by powering the region’s businesses and homes, it is an honor, privilege, and responsibility to reliably and affordably meet the energy demands customers expect and deserve today and into the future. All new generation is expected to be operational by summer 2023.

EL PASO, Texas - Today, El Paso Electric (EPE) is pleased to announce we have entered into a settlement agreement with the Chaparral Community Coalition for Health and the Environment and Sierra Club regarding the air permit for Newman Unit 6. The permit will authorize EPE to begin construction of the state-of-the-art 228-megawatt natural gas replacement unit necessary to meet our customers’ growing energy needs. Newman Unit 6 will allow for the inevitable decommissioning of older generating units.  In addition to using natural gas more efficiently Newman Unit 6 will reduce EPE’s water consumption by 600 million gallons per year, which is approximately equivalent to the needs of 12,000 households.  The continued development of our region has increased customer demand for energy by about 2% per year, and Newman Unit 6 is essential to keep pace with our region’s growth. At EPE, it is our honor, privilege, and responsibility to reliably meet the energy demands our customers expect and deserve.

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Electric (EPE) issues an All Source Request for Proposal (RFP) to obtain both short-term and long-term generating resources and renewable energy for its New Mexico customers by 2025. The objective of this RFP is to obtain renewable energy to meet New Mexico’s increasing Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) and capacity required to meet projected New Mexico energy demand. The New Mexico RPS requires EPE to meet 40% of its New Mexico jurisdictional sales with renewable energy resources beginning in 2025.

NEW MEXICO – In February 2021, the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) took action to end the utility disconnection moratorium that had been in place during the pandemic. El Paso Electric (EPE) will resume disconnections for New Mexico customers beginning Monday, August 16, 2021 with notices set to go out to customers this week.

EL PASO, Texas – A semi-truck crashed into an El Paso Electric (EPE) pole on Stevens Street at Gateway Boulevard East in Central El Paso. EPE crews will need to replace the electric pole and cross electric wires over Interstate 10. This work will require a full closure along Interstate 10 in this area in both directions from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Freeway closures are being coordinated with Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and El Paso Police Department (EPPD).
