EL PASO, Texas - Newman Unit 6 remains a critical resource for all El Paso Electric (EPE) customers now and for those in the future. Newman Unit 6 will be equipped with state-of-the-art air pollution control reducing emissions of ozone precursors by 95% compared to the older units. EPE  is continuing through the air permit approval process for Newman Unit 6 and stands by the merits of the permit application. EPE will continue to meet all regulatory requirements and work with all parties to do so.

EL PASO, Texas – After 15 months of being closed due to the pandemic, El Paso Electric (EPE) reopens all Customer Care Payment Centers throughout its service territory allowing for in-person assistance including bill payment options. EPE Customer Care Payment Centers will also be hosting ‘navigators,’ team members who will be present the first week of each month to help customers apply for financial assistance.

EL PASO, Texas – As part of an ongoing effort to meet the growing energy demands in the far east region of the El Paso Electric (EPE) Texas service territory, the Utility’s contractor – GSW Electric – will need to safely run new distribution lines across the intersection of Horizon Boulevard and Rodman Street. This will require a complete closure along Horizon Blvd between Darrington Road and North Kenazo Avenue this Sunday, May 23 from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This will include the hike and bike trail along the northside of Horizon Bvld. Road closure and traffic detours will be assisted by the Horizon City Police Department.

HATCH, New Mexico – El Paso Electric (EPE) will be making improvements this Saturday, April 17 to the Hatch Substation that serves a large portion for the Village of Hatch. These improvements will allow for the substation to manage additional demand and help improve service reliability for EPE customers in Hatch. In order to safely complete all necessary work, a three-hour scheduled power outage will go into effect beginning at 12:00 a.m. this Saturday, April 17 until 3:00 a.m. The scheduled power outage will temporarily impact approximately 1,950 customers.

The new website chat feature, called “EPE Chat” will be available to all customers from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. MST Monday through Friday and programmed to assist in both English and Spanish. This new enhanced feature  comes just one week after EPE shared its new and permanent Customer Care Call Center hours that were extended from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. MST, Monday through Friday.

El Paso Electric (EPE) has selected Mitsubishi Power’s 228 megawatt (MW) Smart M501GAC enhanced-response (SmartER) gas turbine as part of EPE’s long-term energy supply resource plan to make its power generation cleaner and more sustainable. This gas turbine will enable EPE to triple its renewable energy portfolio and reduce carbon emissions. The SmartER M501GAC complements renewable energy sources by starting up and shutting down rapidly to respond to customer energy usage and renewable energy variability. The gas turbine will replace three units EPE has deemed less efficient and less reliable after more than 60 years in operation. In addition, the gas turbine is hydrogen ready for future deep decarbonization. With New Mexico legislation moving toward 100 percent carbon-free emissions by 2045, EPE joins a growing list of utilities creating future economic value for their customers with Mitsubishi Power’s decarbonization solutions.*
