El Paso Electric Assisting with Power Restoration Efforts in East Texas

Natural disaster leaves 350,000 Dallas-customers without power

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Electric (EPE) is assisting with power restoration efforts in Dallas County, Texas after over 350,000 customers were left without power as a result of a major thunderstorm that swept through East Texas.

EPE deployed a total of 13 team members, including 11 linemen, two safety representatives along with bucket trucks, flatbed trucks and other necessary equipment.

According to Texas Mutual Assistance Group, an alliance of electric utilities across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, over 2,000 linemen are needed in order to assist Oncore, the electric utility provider for Dallas County. The call for EPE’s assistance came immediately after conditions were deemed safe to work.

EPE has previously responded to calls for assistance in power restoration due to severe weather events in other parts of the country; most recently in Florida in September 2017, when several hundred thousand outages were caused by Hurricane Irma. EPE also assisted utilites in North Texas in March 2017, as well as ConEdison of New York after Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
