El Paso Electric Presents Grant to STTE Foundation In Support of STEAM Education

El Paso, Texas – El Paso Electric (EPE), through its Community Partner Program, presented a $15,000 grant at a check presentation ceremony today to the Success Through Technology Education (STTE) Foundation to continue its advocacy of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education. This grant will help support local robotics teams in high schools throughout the borderplex region. Officials with the Paso Del Norte Community Foundation, New Mexico State University, the regions’ three largest school districts – Ysleta, Socorro and El Paso, as well as students from Eastwood High School’s Robotics Team were in attendance.

This was EPE’s second Community Partner Program award for the 2019 calendar year, for a total amount of over $216,300 all benefitting not-for-profit organizations that serve southern New Mexico. EPE actively participates in the communities that make up the Company’s 10,000 square-mile service area by supporting a diverse mix of civic and charitable programs, such as the ones honored today.

Overnight Road Closure: EPE to Conduct Work Along Doniphan Drive

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Electric (EPE) will be installing three new distribution circuits from the Ripley Substation in west El Paso to accommodate increasing electricity usage in the upper valley area. This work will require an overnight road closure along Doniphan Drive between Mesa Street / Country Club Road and Sunset Road from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday, August 21 and 22. This work will also require temporary closure of the BNSF train tracks in this same area. Traffic control measures will be in place during this time, and El Paso Police will be onsite to help safely guide traffic.

These appointments are effective beginning August 1, 2019 and follow Mary Kipp’s (EPE’s current CEO and President) decision to accept the position of President with Puget Sound Energy in Washington state. To ensure a smooth transition, Kipp will continue with EPE until August 1, 2019.

U.S. Air Force joins El Paso Electric to Launch New Solar Facility at Holloman

The U.S. Air Force, alongside El Paso Electric (EPE), officially celebrate the completion and commercial operation of the Holloman Atlas Solar Array at a ribbon cutting ceremony today. The EPE-owned and operated solar facility, its first built to serve a U.S. military installation, spans 42-acres and is dedicated to serve the Holloman Air Force Base electric load in Otero County, New Mexico.

The one percent increase will begin October 1, 2018, and will be reflected on bills as a separate line item; however a federal tax rate reduction and a decrease in fuel costs, will offset the increase.

The far right lane will be closed overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. in both east and westbound directions until EPE crews complete the work needed along the utility bridge entrance access points.

Overnight closures are needed to allow EPE crews to safely relocate transmission poles and lines just north and south of Montwood Drive at the intersection of Zaragoza Road.

On Tuesday, April 24, 2018, El Paso Electric (EPE) filed for approval for a new Community Solar Program in New Mexico with the New Mexico Public Regulatory Commission (NMPRC). Under the proposed program, EPE’s New Mexico customers will have the opportunity to subscribe, on a voluntary basis, to solar generation from a new 2 megawatt (MW) solar facility to be constructed, owned and operated by EPE located ­­­­­­­­near the intersection of highway I-10 and I-25, in Doña Ana County.

El Paso Electric (EPE) warns customers of a scam currently involving individuals falsely representing themselves as EPE customer service representatives. Customers are being told they have to pay for a new meter and are being asked to call a phone number not associated with EPE to make the payment immediately or their service will be shut off. Reports of this scam have all been small business owners in the downtown Las Cruces area. This scam has been reported to the Las Cruces Police Department.

El Paso Electric is providing further information about the TIO Networks USA, Inc. security incident that we previously reported.  TIO is a third-party provider of mobile payment applications and other payment technologies for many companies, including El Paso Electric’s mobile pay application, MobilePay. In November, TIO suspended its operations, and as a result, El Paso’s MobilePay became unavailable.
