El Paso Electric (EPE) welcomed a group of more than 20 members of the El Paso Chamber’s Leadership El Paso Class 44 for an exclusive tour of our innovative Buena Vista Energy Center, a new utility-scale solar facility. The Buena Vista Energy Center will generate an impressive 120 megawatts (MW) of renewable power and boasts a capacity of 50 MWs of battery storage set to go online in early April.

On December 1, 2022, El Paso Electric (EPE) filed with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) to expand its Texas Community Solar Program by building a 10-megawatt (MW) solar facility in San Elizario, Texas. This new solar facility will add to EPE’s existing, fully subscribed, Texas Community Solar Program and offer a discounted rate for customers who qualify. If approved, the 10 MW expansion will bring the program’s total capacity to 15 MW of community solar energy.

Beginning in spring 2023, El Paso Electric (EPE) customers in Texas will start receiving the most advanced smart meters at their homes and businesses. This announcement comes following last week's approval of EPE’s smart meter project by the Public Utility Commission of Texas. The New Mexico Regulatory Commission approved the project for New Mexico customers in November, and their installations are scheduled to begin in fall 2023.

Post-COVID-19, El Paso Electric (EPE) continues to see a major increase in both mail-in and online payment options and customer adoption of EPE’s digital and phone communication channels. As a result, traffic to EPE’s four walk-in payment centers has significantly decreased. To provide additional resources to the most utilized customer communication channels, EPE will be closing its two walk-in payment centers in Texas by January 13, 2023 and its two New Mexico payment centers by February 10, 2023.

Initiated by the Utilities United Against Scams, or UUAS, the scam awareness campaign focuses on educating customers on the tactics scammers use to steal their money or personal information.

The artwork reflects the strong partnership with EPE, a remembrance of the 23 precious lives lost, and our path towards a resilient future. The El Paso United Family Resiliency Center (FRC) welcomed the beautiful art painting housed inside its offices on 6314 Delta Drive on August 1, 2022.

With high temperatures continuing to rise, El Paso Electric (EPE) has additional crews and resources to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. During the spring, EPE prepares for the very hot summer months common in our area.  We use this time to do maintenance on our generation equipment as well as to upgrade our transmission and distribution lines and equipment. We stock up on equipment that is commonly affected during the summer months. EPE also makes arrangements to have crews available to make sure these types of outages are resolved as quickly as possible.
