El Paso Electric Establishes the Electric Company Charitable Foundation

EL PASO, Texas, April 4, 2023 – El Paso Electric (EPE) proudly announces the launch of the Electric Company Charitable Foundation (ECC), a new philanthropic arm that is committed to making transformative investments in the communities we serve to help our region thrive and foster a culture of empowerment for future generations. The ECC Foundation replaces the Community Partner Program, EPE’s historical giving program, and will focus its grant-giving impact on nonprofit projects and programs that align with its three new focus areas:

  • Education: Bolster the development of innovative educational initiatives and STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, Math) programs.
  • Economic development: Support projects that empower the business landscape with job development, retention and growth.
  • Environmental stewardship: Focus on works that reflect the conservation, improvement, and education of environmental sustainability.

Funded with $1.2 million by the energy provider, the monies will be disbursed in 2023 for grant giving and employee donation matches. The ECC Foundation looks forward to hearing from organizations that are doing great work in our communities. Nonprofits are encouraged to apply for a grant by visiting our website. EPE employees will have the opportunity to make their own impact by having their donations to their preferred charities matched 100% by the ECC Foundation.

Managed by a nine-member board of directors, the ECC Foundation is made up of EPE employees who live and work in our service region and will be an active part of the grant and employee match review process.

Robert Almanzán, President of the ECC Foundation Board of Directors, said:

“As the new Board consists of employee leaders from all segments of El Paso Electric, we appreciate the responsibility that we have been entrusted with guiding this Foundation. Most exciting is our continued partnership with our generous employees in the Foundation’s ability to match employee giving. The Foundation’s matching support to organizations in our service region emphasize what is important to our employees. We want to support causes they are passionate about through the Foundation's matching volunteer and donation programs.”

Kelly Tomblin, President and Chief Executive Officer of El Paso Electric, said:

"We have a deep-rooted historical commitment to our community. By establishing the Electric Company Charitable Foundation, we can expand our reach to potential donors. We want to optimize the impact we are making and target the giving to the foundation’s mission and vision.”
