El Paso Electric 10th Annual Summer College Internship Is Officially In Session

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Electric’s (EPE) Summer College Internship Program is officially in session. The Company welcomed 13 college and graduate scholars as this year’s program cohort, which also celebrates 10 years. Launched back in 2011, EPE’s Summer College Internship Program is an initiative that offers homegrown college students an opportunity to develop their skills through a paid internship during their summer intersession.

“The foundation of our mission in providing our customers safe and reliable energy they expect and deserve is built on the talent, passion and expertise of our workforce who call the region we serve home as well,” shares EPE President and CEO Kelly A. Tomblin. “This is why I’m so proud that we continue to offer our annual summer college internship program that welcomes back students where they can learn and serve the community they grew up in.”

After going completely virtual last summer for the program’s first time due to the pandemic, this year’s summer college intern cohort can be found working across different departments such as finance and accounting, engineering, legal, human resources, distribution dispatch, power generation and more.

“I am proud to have been selected as part of EPE’s Summer College Internship Program as I know it will challenge me in a way that will prepare me to hit the ground running for my future career,” says Maximo Martinez, accounting major at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. “I am thankful for the opportunity to mature into a future professional and gain work experience while giving my time, energy, and expertise to EPE and the community I grew up in.”

A major component to EPE’s Summer College Internship Program is developing each scholar into an emerging leader both in our southwest region and in their field of study. Through this effort, EPE interns will plan and execute the Company’s annual corporate social responsibility project.

“The value of an internship to a college student’s readiness for real-world work experience is priceless but all too often many of these opportunities are unpaid making it an impossible option for many,” shares EPE Director of Organizational Development Michelle Fenton. “Despite the challenges the pandemic posed for us last year, we are so passionate about this program because each one of our scholars becomes a true member of the EPE team during the summer, they are paid for their work and leave with a better understanding for what it means to serve our community through our annual corporate social responsibility project.”

EPE’s summer college scholars will partner with El Paso United Family Resiliency Center for this year’s CSR project. The summer college internship will run through early-August. For more information on EPE’s internship opportunities and other positions available, visit epelectric.com.
