Vice President of Strategy and Sustainability

David to lead innovation for the Company by driving creative growth strategies

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – David Hawkins is appointed as El Paso Electric’s (EPE) Vice President of Strategy and Sustainability by the Company’s Board of Directors, effective February 8, 2021.

“Dave’s knowledge and experience in the electric utility industry across several key areas will be integral to positioning innovation and sustainability in the forefront of our strategic plan,” said EPE CEO Kelly A. Tomblin. “In addition, Dave’s deep roots in New Mexico will help our Executive Team balance our regional lens as we develop comprehensive short- and long-term plans to serve all of our customers. Dave’s passion to help develop a more aggressive renewable target and integrate emerging technology opportunities to support the Region’s economic development goals is grounded in more than 25 years of key roles at EPE and other energy companies. I am proud of the strong Executive Team he joins, and I am confident that Dave’s leadership will contribute to this next phase of our energy landscape transformation.”

As Vice President of Strategy and Sustainability, Dave will oversee the strategic planning, business growth, innovation, sustainability, and technology operations for EPE. In his new role, Dave will also be responsible for developing and aligning EPE’s overall corporate strategy to enhance strategic goals and guide corporate development activities for the Company.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with our Texas and New Mexico customers as we pursue renewable and emerging technologies that will benefit our region,” said Dave. “The expansion of renewable energy projects into our portfolio of resources that will reliably serve our customers and benefit our communities in a sustainable manner is an exciting challenge as we transform our energy landscape.

Dave joined EPE in 2002, and throughout his tenure with the Company has held roles of increasing responsibility. Most recently, Dave was EPE’s Vice President of Generation, System Planning and Dispatch. He has also served as the Company’s Manager of Long-Term Trading and Fuels, Director of Energy Trading, Director of Generation Operations, and Vice President of Power Marketing & Fuels and Resource Planning. Raised in New Mexico, Dave holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University.
