El Paso Electric Smart Meter Installations Underway

Customers can use interactive map to check installation dates

EL PASO, Texas (May 15, 2023) – Smart meter installations begin today in the El Paso Electric (EPE) service area. A smart meter will provide every customer with access to more information about their energy usage so they can track and make real-time changes on how they are using their energy.

“Smart meters empower customers to better understand and manage their energy use so they can save money, lower their carbon footprint and participate in future programs that support the demand of our customers better,” said Kelly Tomblin, EPE President and CEO. “We’re excited to engage customers in the process of decarbonizing our communities for future generations.”

The installation schedule is available on El Paso Electric’s smart meter website. Customers can enter their ZIP codes to find out when their new meter will be installed. They will also receive postcards in the mail 60 days prior to their scheduled installation. The smart meter installation process is expected to be completed in 2025.

Meter Installation Process

Customers do not need to be home for the meter changeout, but they should ensure there is adequate clearance around their current meter. The work will be completed in less than 15 minutes, and the power will be turned off during this time to ensure the safety of the installers.

The installers will NEVER ask for payment, personal information, or account information. If a customer is approached for this information, they should decline the request and report it immediately to El Paso Electric.

For more detailed information about the installation process, visit El Paso Electric’s smart meter website.
