Charles "Chuck" Conlen

Independent Board Member

Chuck Conlen is an energy executive and former corporate officer with more than 30 years of experience across regulated utilities, renewable energy, finance, and technology sectors. He previously served as Vice President and Head of Renewables, Clean Energy, and Battery Storage at DTE Energy, where he led the commercial, regulatory, and strategic execution of the company’s renewable energy platform, growing the portfolio from under 2 megawatts to over 8 gigawatts of wind, solar, and battery storage. In this role, he held profit-and-loss responsibility for a portfolio generating over $300 million in annual EBITDA and led more than $1 billion in wind and solar acquisitions. He also oversaw the development and execution of the MIGreenPower program, North America’s largest voluntary renewable energy program, representing more than 4,000 gigawatt-hours of contracted renewable energy annually.

Earlier in his career, Conlen served as a Vice President in Investment and Corporate Banking at Citigroup, where he advised on more than $7 billion in mergers, acquisitions, and financing transactions, leading diligence, risk assessment, and governance processes. He began his career as a power engineer with Chevron, providing a technical foundation for executive leadership in the electric utility and renewable energy industries. Conlen earned an MBA in Finance and Strategy from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Power and Propulsion Engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
