El Paso Electric Marks Texas First with Successful EV Ride & Drive
EL PASO, Texas (September 13, 2025) - In a Texas first for El Paso Electric (EPE), the community had the chance to experience the thrill of electric driving at the company’s inaugural EV Ride & Drive event held at the El Paso County Coliseum. Almost 300 attendees test drove a lineup of popular electric vehicles (EVs) from multiple manufacturers, explored different charging options and spoke directly with EV owners about the real-world experience of driving electric.
“People are eager to test drive and learn about the savings and convenience that EVs offer, and we’re excited to help them take that next step,” said Angie Rodriguez, EPE’s Director of Transportation Electrification. “The enthusiasm was clear well before the event, with registrations filling up two weeks in advance. We’re empowering customers to make informed choices that save money and reduce emissions.”
The EV Ride & Drive also highlighted time-sensitive federal tax credit opportunities for Texas customers to save on a new or used EV. Through September 30, income-qualified customers can combine EPE’s rebates with up to $7,500 in federal tax credits.
EVs deliver more than just excitement behind the wheel. Key benefits include:
- Lower operating costs: Fueling with electricity can cost roughly the equivalent of $1 per gallon of gasoline.
- Cleaner energy: EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions.
- Convenient charging: Power up at home, at work or at a growing network of public charging stations in EPE’s service region and beyond.
- Special rate plans: EPE offers off-peak charging incentives, including whole-house EV rates with average monthly bill credits of around $8.
- Low maintenance: Fewer moving parts mean less upkeep and lower long-term expenses.
EPE’s own EV rebates and programs will continue beyond September 30 for both Texas and New Mexico customers. Details are available at epelectric.com/EV.
