El Paso Electric Provides Refund to Texas Customers
EL PASO, Texas (February 27, 2026) – El Paso Electric (EPE) will issue a $40M refund to Texas customers through the fuel charge with an automatic bill credit that will appear over the March, April and May 2026 billing cycles.
The interim refund of $40,054,380 will be reflected as a line-item credit on eligible customers’ bills. No action is required and credits will be applied automatically.
This refund is a result of selling generation to other utilities during those periods when EPE has excess generation and access to lower cost fuel not available in other markets. EPE continually explores ways to optimize our system to benefit our customers.
What customers can expect:
- Automatic bill credits in March thru May 2026 bills.
- Credit amounts vary by customer usage and rate classes.
- For a typical residential customer, EPE estimates an average credit of about $16.14 in March and April, and about $31.44 in May (based on seasonal average usage).
