Low Income Rider Program from El Paso Electric

Texas residential customers who have a Lone Star Card or a total annual household income at or below 125% of the federal poverty level can qualify for a $82.80 a year savings on electric bills. As part of the Low Income Rider (LIR) program approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas, residential customers who qualify will not be charged the $6.90 customer charge on monthly electric bills by El Paso Electric.

Who Qualifies?
To qualify for the El Paso Electric Low Income Rider you must:

  • Have an El Paso Electric account in your name, and
  • Have a Lone Star Card or have household annual income at or below 125% of the federal poverty level.

How to Apply

Important Notice
Upon verification of all reported information and qualification to participate in the Low Income Rider (LIR), the $6.90 Customer Charge will not be billed for the following twelve (12) months. A customer can renew the LIR on an annual basis by providing verification of customer information.
